About: Antioch University Seattle offers a Master's in Environment and Community through the Center for Creative Change, a dynamic and innovative graduate center that prepares you to become an effective leader. You approach environmental policy and sustainability issues from both a social science and natural science perspective. If you work or would like to work in environment and community development with organizations, businesses or government agencies, the program is designed for you. Students explore topics of community bioregionalism, biodiversity, permaculture, sustainable development, healthy environments, appropriate technologies, environmental education, social and environmental justice, ecopsychology, green building, deep ecology and environmental policy. As a graduate, you¿re able to apply collaborative learning and problem solving, strategic communication and critical reflection to the social and environmental challenges facing the world today. Courses are offered in a four-day weekend module once a month. By enrolling full time, you can earn your degree in 22 months. Request Information

The IslandWood Graduate Residency in Education, Environment and Community in Partnership with University of Washington

Bainbridge Island, WA US

About: The IslandWood Graduate Residency in Education, Environment and Community, in partnership with the University of Washington, is a unique immersion experience in learning and teaching at one of the nation¿s most innovative and sustainable campuses. Graduate studies include ecologically based courses in education and professionally mentored teaching of children from urban Seattle and surrounding counties in our four-day residential program. Using cultural and natural communities as a context for learning, graduate students learn to teach children the importance of environmental and community stewardship. During the 10-month residency on Island Wood¿s 255-acre campus, featuring a pond, bog, marsh, ravine, forest and estuary, graduate students complete 39 credits and earn a Certificate in Education for Environment and Community from the University of Washington. During a second year, graduate students can choose to complete one of several master¿s degrees at the University of Washington or a Master in Teaching/Teacher Certification from City University. Understanding sustainability is a key theme in the College, as we go into a century of conflicting needs; we need energy, but we also need to preserve the environment; we need land for building, but we also need to preserve habitat.
